Now that I had my crates, it was time to figure out how to set them up as a display. There were a few factors to consider. The first was safety, as prospective clients would be in direct contact with the display. The second consideration was design and visual flow. I wanted high impact and I wanted to arrange the crates in such a way that the display would draw the client in and encourage them to linger. For these two reasons I decided to stack the crates in a 3-2-1 pyramid. Using the pyramid allowed for flexibility in the set up. I could choose a small set up of six crates as one pyramid, twelve crates as two pyramids, or an all out incredible display of 18 crates as three pyramids. All sketched out in my little note pad, it looked great.
The way something looks on paper, is not always an accurate representation of reality. For this reason, it was necessary to execute a mock set up. I caused a bit of a ruckus, as I needed to set up in as close to the conditions of my first Market experience as possible. As I knew my first setup would be at a Mall I needed a large indoor space to set up in. I took out my measuring tape and a piece of chalk and started plotting. As luck would have it, I happen to own a very large barn with a concrete floor; perfect. Of course, not so lucky, the barn is not empty. Thus the reason for the ruckus. I needed everything moved out of the way so I could do a mock set up. The ruckus I caused was on such a large scale, I am truly surprised I was not offered my own reality tv show.
